Thought for the Day

We know that God, having made us with free will, continues to respect our free will, to the end. When Jesus died upon the cross to redeem us from our sins, it did not mean that from then on everyone would have to go to heaven whether he wanted to or not. It did not mean that God took back our physical freedom, so that we would have to be good - in spite of ourselves if necessary. What it did mean, when Jesus died upon the cross, was that infinite atonement had been made for the infinite evil of mankind's rebellion against God; and that infinite price had been paid for an inexhaustible flow of grace which would enable each man to turn back to God and to remain united with God through this life and through eternity.
